Desperately Seeking Sanity

I have been starting to research baby furniture on my quest to start decorating the baby's room, and, oh yeah, have a place for the baby to sleep. I bought the book "Baby Bargains" that more than one person recommended to me. My problem?

Too many choices!!! I am so lost and overwhelmed. I am looking for a very simple crib, middle of the road in price (under $400) and I'm going crazy.

I find something that I like, then I look it up in the book and it gets a rating of C-. Well, there goes that. Then I find another and its $1,500. Are you kidding me? I've been a cross referencing fool and I have determined that there are too many choices. I need there to be only three cribs that exist in the world and I will choose between those.

Can anyone help? Any ideas, advice? What do you have (my mother friends out there)?

How am I supposed to raise a child when I can't even pick out a place for him to sleep?

In the words of Charlie Brown, "good grief".

sadly Lila will still be in need of a crib when your little son arrives, otherwise I would gift you ours.

I find epinions to be very beneficial.

Also, don't waste your time on "convertible" cribs. Just get a crib-crib, not one that turns into a bed. That should narrow down your search and prices.

You'll do fine. Why? Because you still have 4 months until your bambino arrives, and you are doing your homework already!

I was thinking about the convertible crib thing and I am going to have to slightly disagree with Jay on this one. I agree you don't want one that converts to an all out bed but we have one that converts to a toddler bed and I really like that function. And as long as you aren't planning to have another within the next three years I think a convertible crib/toddler bed is a good way to go... Good luck choosing!

Make sure to do some research about which crib manufacturers have recently had crib recalls. Violet's crib was recalled in July and it was the biggest pain in the neck! She slept in the pack and play for 2 months while we waited to get it all sorted out. Another thing to keep in mind, Violet slept in our room for about the first 6 months in her bassinet because it made night feedings so much easier. Her crib didn't get heavy use until after she outgrew the bassinet. Hope this helps! You'll do great!

If it makes you feel any better, when Lee's parents brought him home from the hospital he slept in a cardboard box for a brief time. Babies don't care :) I agree with Jayna on the convertible feature. I know we will never use it. With Mitchell, I just got a cheap crib (ie Walmart cheap) that had good reviews. He's used it as a trampoline and it's still holding up. That said, I wish I'd gone for a slightly more expensive one, just because they're prettier. Because that one is still in good shape, so I have a hard time justifing a new one for the new baby.

Sorry, I got a hand-me-down from my mom that she had bought somewhere (along with a changing table to match). I don't even know what brand it is or where she got it...I didn't ask questions when she said the words "free baby furniture..." :)

Good luck with your search!
